introduction to workship at coley

Most of our morning services are Holy Communion, the exception being 10:30 a.m. on the first Sunday of the month, when we have a family service.

At a Communion service, we roughly follow an order of service. You will hear two Bible readings and a sermon to explain them. A member of the congregation will say some prayers from the front, which are on behalf of the whole Church, and include world affairs, local affairs, and anything that a member of our Church wants prayer for. During this time, several hymns are sung, a mixture of older, well-known ones and others that are newer. Those who love the Lord Jesus are invited to receive Communion from the front and anyone who is not sure, or who does not want to receive Communion is given a blessing.  Our policy is that anyone who loves Jesus is welcome to receive Communion.

There is a crèche for those that would benefit from that, but we are very child-friendly and if you would prefer to keep your child with you, no one will mind. Young Church meets in the Church Hall a little further up the road, for those aged 2½ and upwards at 10.15 am. Parents should take them to the Church Hall first, and then come to Church. The children are brought down in time for Communion. For those, aged 11 and upwards, we have a teenage group that meets in the Church Hall at 10.15 am.

The family service is much freer and everyone stays together for it.  There are hymns, Bible readings, explanations and prayers, but the service is generally shorter and is sometimes taken by other groups in the Church who want us to learn about specific projects.

The evening services vary and they are always much quieter.  The sermon tends to be longer as it is a time when people go to soak up the Bible and the atmosphere is one of quiet contemplation.  It is a good place to relax in God’s presence.

At all services, the Bible takes priority and the teaching is considered to be very important.
At the end of the service, you are welcome to approach someone to talk about what you have heard and in some cases, we can arrange for a person to sit and pray with you, if you so desire.
