Baptisms at Coley Church

Baptism is a rite in the Church that dates way back in history.  Jesus himself was baptised in the River Jordan in Israel, though today we usually use the font in Church.   We also have the facility to offer a baptism in deep water (full immersion) for those who want to pursue that.

Baptism should be considered only by those who are willing to dedicate their lives to the service of the Lord Jesus Christ.  It should not be seen simply as a rite of passage.  Within the service, there is a public declaration to follow Jesus, and to attend Church, or in the case of a minor to bring the child to Church.
If you are a regular worshipper at Coley, you are very welcome to have a baptism at Coley Church.  This can be either within the main service or as a separate service after the main one, where there will be just you, your family and friends.

For those who are not regular members of Coley Church, you are welcome to approach us for a baptism if you live within the Parish.  We have four special services per year. These services begin at 12:00 p.m., after our Family Service has finished.

We would ask you to think about whether baptism is right for your child.  For those who cannot honestly promise to come to Church and be a committed follower of Jesus, you may consider a ‘thanksgiving’.  This is just as important.  It gives you a chance to bring your child to Church to be presented to God and to be prayed for.  It leaves the baptism open for later.  If you decide to have a baptism, the Baptism team will visit and talk to you.
