There is one major stumbling block. We aren't very good at doing the right thing.

Every time we do something wrong it gets in the way of our relationship with God. We often think that we live good lives but if we are really honest with ourselves we realise that we haven't always done the right thing. It is quite easy to say "I have never killed anyone" but it is much more difficult to say "I have never lied" or "I have never cheated"

It is at times like these when God is unable to have a relationship with us as he is Holy. He is good and can't bear the times when we fall short of doing the right thing - he can't bear our sin.
